A major new information and event platform for the energy infrastructure sector

Launching Autumn 2025, Birmingham

SUMMARY

Connecting leaders for the £16bn Great Grid Upgrade and a net zero future

To correspond with the forthcoming period of transformative development in UK energy infrastructure, GRID will deliver live and digital information platforms to connect the people and organisations responsible for its planning, developing, managing, maintaining, and future-proofing.

GRID will have National Grid and NESO (National Energy Systems Operator) at its core. They are responsible for £16bn ‘Great Grid Upgrade’ (GGU) - a program to overhaul the UK's unfit legacy and deliver conspicuous social, environmental and economic benefits. These include the creation of up to 130,000 jobs, £11 billion GVA, the reduction of reliance on fossil fuels and so acceleration of its clean energy and net zero ambitions.

OPPORTUNITY

Unlocking opportunity, building communities

The building of this new and improved infrastructure will be commissioned by National Grid and designed / delivered by the construction (design engineers and contractors) and technology industries to automate and expand capacity. The opportunity for these organisations is as substantial as the mandate for National Grid to procure it.

GRID will build a new community, provide a platform for National Grid (with NESO, DESNEZ, OFGEM and the distribution network operators) to engage with private sector partners and be a fulcrum for the big thinking and innovation required to meet this challenge.

“The new government’s approaches to achieving net zero have the potential to ‘light a fire’ under the energy sector to accelerate the transition”

– CARL TROWELL, PRESIDENT NATIONAL GRID

EVENT

A two-day multi-stage conference and exhibition

The GRID event will be held over 2 days in Birmingham in Autumn 2025 and will be supported by weekly news, podcasts, webinars and monthly opinion pieces from January (25). It will involve a multi-stage conference, round tables and an exhibition and will be configured to video and transcribed in order to create measurable outputs.
